Perfection is a strong word. If possible, we would want every situation in our lives to be perfect, wouldn’t we? The perfect family, the perfect house, the perfect business deal with clients who have the same mindset and direction, and ultimately, a perfect life. But to what extent are we willing to sacrifice, to achieve said perfection? And should we aim for perfection?
There is a term in the Japanese culture ‘Wabi-Sabi’ which loosely translates to “taking pleasure in life’s imperfections”. I find this term very fascinating because not only is it relevant to appreciate the many things we go through every day, it can also be applied to every situation, be it in our professional or personal life. And the best part is, you don’t need to spend money or have a special skill set to apply it in your life. It comes naturally and from within.
This week, I have three articles I would like to share with everyone about embracing our flaws and use them to our advantage and bring out the best leaders in us all.
7 Reasons Why It Is Important To Embrace Your Flaws
As much as we appreciate and love the idea of perfection, we need to realize that imperfection is real, and it is very much present. Thus, when we learn to let go of the illusion of perfection, that is where we can focus on our flaws, and that is where the true beauty lies. Only when we learn to accept our flaws can we understand the weakness and the struggle of others.
How Embracing Your Imperfections Can Boost Job Performance And Build Your Career
This is an eye-opening article on what we perceive as perfection is in the workplace, is not what it seems to be. Once we unlock the potential of recognizing our imperfections, a whole wave of opportunities come flooding, and that can help us grow and excel in our career.
4 Reasons Accepting Your Flaws Will Make You A Better Leader
As leaders, we are pressured to be positive and perform at our very best all the time. Showing weakness might mean a loss of respect from the team. That is furthest from the truth as it can get. By showing that you are not infallible and are at times vulnerable to the problems present will build trust and create stronger camaraderie among the team. This, in turn, will empower everyone to strive harder together towards success.
Bonus!
For this week’s bonus, I have a superbly unique video to share with everyone. As the main image of this article, Kintsugi is an artform where gold or silver dust is applied to repair broken pottery, and the end product is much stronger and more beautiful than it was before.
To me, this is one of the best ways of expressing the idea of embracing imperfections. And the philosophy goes much deeper than that. It also teaches us the acceptance of change as we should not be too attached to something that has served us well. By letting go and embracing that idea of perfection, the outcome might return to us in unexpectedly positive ways.
With that, I would like to wish everyone a great weekend, and may we all embrace the imperfections in our lives for that is the true meaning of beauty.

As busy professionals, our schedules are often filled to the brim with meetings and tasks to complete. We can get so caught up with work that we might even forget our all-important lunch and power through dinner as well. Alas, we can only do so much given the 24 hours we have in a day. While time management is vital, being productive is another matter in its entirety.Enter time batching.
