Just like a colony of ants, it takes every soldier, worker and their queen to survive and thrive in the ecosystem. One ant may not be very strong, but together, they become a magnificent colony. The term “ant colony” does not only refer to the structure and physical location they live in, but it is also the system whereby the ant communicates and organize themselves. Thus, collective intelligence.
Akin to the ants, humans also need collective intelligence to evolve, and one way of doing so, is with technology. Technology dependency has been at an all-time high with the pandemic situation. And as collective intelligence advances with the digital age, it has the potential to achieve far beyond what humans or machine can do alone.
This week let's dive into what collective intelligence is and how we can apply it in our businesses and the working industry.
What is Collective Intelligence and Why You Should Use It?
One word, Wikipedia. It is the perfect example of using technology to share and build a community of data as if we were all sharing one enormous brain. In this article, it shares the four roles of AI we can or have already integrated into our businesses and how we can further grow with the help of collective intelligence.
Tap Your Company’s Collective Intelligence With Mindfulness
What happens when you sit in a meeting room full of bright ideas, and it quickly becomes one too many? Yes, there is a downside to collective intelligence, and it is up to us to stay mindful and open to the information everyone is sharing. I feel that this article gives such valuable insight into how mindfulness can be a solution to strengthen our organization from within.
Catalyze Your Team’s Collective Intelligence With Five Practices For Crisis Time
Such a wonderful post by none other than my dear friend Jean-François Cousin, on how we can catalyze the team’s collective intelligence during times of crisis. A thought leader with years of experience under his belt, the five practices shared here are superb and can benefit organizations no matter the industry. A must-read, most definitely!
Bonus!
'No Man is an Island'
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
- John Donne
For my bonus this week, I have a poem to share with you. I’m sure everyone has heard the term, “no man is an island” from our favourite tv shows to a casual chat from a night out with friends at the bar. But have we ever pondered on the meaning of that quote?
It derives from a poem by John Donne, an English poet from the 17th century, and it ties in very well with the topic at hand. “No man is an island” refers to us as human beings, naturally gravitate to others around us for company and comfort because alone, we cannot be self-sufficient. With the concept of collective intelligence, it requires us to connect to share thoughts and information and only then can we grow as a whole.
With that, I would like to wish everyone a great weekend ahead and may we all strive for success and grow together.
